Summary

When a bus driver takes a break from his route, a very unlikely volunteer springs up to take his place-a pigeon! But you've never met one like this before。 As he pleads, wheedles, and begs his way through the book, children will love being able to answer back and decide his fate。In his hilarious picture book debut, popular cartoonist Mo Willems perfectly captures a preschooler's temper tantrum。

Not the biggest fan of this book because young kids will not understand that they are supposed to be pretending to talk back to the pigeon

This story is about a bus driver who says he has to leave。 He tells us as the reader to make sure we don’t let the pigeon drive the bus。 The pigeon throughout the story comes up with reasons and excuses on why we should let him drive the bus。 The pigeon continues to try to persuade the reader to let him drive the bus。 The pigeon throws a tantrum and a fit just so he can drive the bus。 The illustrations are pretty simple, but are bright and detailed。 The authors drawings are made with what appear This story is about a bus driver who says he has to leave。 He tells us as the reader to make sure we don’t let the pigeon drive the bus。 The pigeon throughout the story comes up with reasons and excuses on why we should let him drive the bus。 The pigeon continues to try to persuade the reader to let him drive the bus。 The pigeon throws a tantrum and a fit just so he can drive the bus。 The illustrations are pretty simple, but are bright and detailed。 The authors drawings are made with what appears to be markers。 The light blue colored pigeon catches the eye of any reader。 I love how the pigeon is such a simple drawing with his one big eye and his bright yellow beak。 The background of the color the illustrations are simple and pastel but color the whole page。 The backgrounds are not just plane white and that keeps the attention of the story。 The colors used in the story are all pastel colors such as, purple, yellow, blue, and red。I gave this book 5 stars because it was one of my favorites as a kid。 It is a fun and comical story that also lets the readers interact with the story。 I also think the message that it sends to the readers is important, which is the responsibility of keeping a promise。 。。。more

The focus of the book is the pigeon trying to persuade the reader to let him drive the bus。 The book focuses on responsibility, blame, and punishment as well。 It encourages the children to talk back to the book and answer the pigeon’s questions。The language is good for small children。 There are few words on the pages and it is an easily understandable language。 The pictures on the page are very simple。 They all use the same color scheme and are perfect for the text。I gave this book five stars。 T The focus of the book is the pigeon trying to persuade the reader to let him drive the bus。 The book focuses on responsibility, blame, and punishment as well。 It encourages the children to talk back to the book and answer the pigeon’s questions。The language is good for small children。 There are few words on the pages and it is an easily understandable language。 The pictures on the page are very simple。 They all use the same color scheme and are perfect for the text。I gave this book five stars。 This is because it is a good book for young kids who can’t sit still for a whole book yet。 It is short and gets the story across in an easy to understand way。 I would use this in my classroom of young kids and talk about what’s right and what’s wrong。 。。。more

A very minimalist approach, but done extremely well。 This is a very entertaining book and I would recommend to kids of all ages。 I am not 100 percent sure on a message that this book delivers, but that doesn't always matter。 As long as your kid enjoys it, then it is doing its job perfectly。 Overall great book。 A very minimalist approach, but done extremely well。 This is a very entertaining book and I would recommend to kids of all ages。 I am not 100 percent sure on a message that this book delivers, but that doesn't always matter。 As long as your kid enjoys it, then it is doing its job perfectly。 Overall great book。 。。。more

This is a very creative and unique book that is one of a kind。 I say that because usually, most books do not involve the audience, but this book does and that is what makes it even more interesting and fun。 This book is really good to be read out loud to little kids because they can participate in what’s happening。 The pigeon seemed like a child begging for something that he is not allowed to have, and the exaggerated illustrations really played up that struggle。 This book is super relatable。 Th This is a very creative and unique book that is one of a kind。 I say that because usually, most books do not involve the audience, but this book does and that is what makes it even more interesting and fun。 This book is really good to be read out loud to little kids because they can participate in what’s happening。 The pigeon seemed like a child begging for something that he is not allowed to have, and the exaggerated illustrations really played up that struggle。 This book is super relatable。 Though in a more indirect way。 The children get to play the “parent role” by shouting “no” to the pigeon。 。。。more

This is a good book to read out loud and have children react with but it was not enjoyable。 In the book the bus driver advises readers to not let the pigeon drive the bus, which the pigeon never does。 I think it would have been better if the pigeon did drive the bus to make it more interesting。

Modern FantasyPre-K-1Another classic by Mo Willems! I love that this book is interactive with the audience and encourages participation。 I also really like that this book can be used with different lessons, like drawing the pigeon for a directed draw for art, or a lesson on using speech bubbles in pictures to add to writing。 This book is so entertaining even for all elementary grades!

Application: Students always want to try new things, some things that they are just not going to do or just not ready for so we as teachers have to divert their attention to something else。 And this book would be a way that could show students that they may not be able to do some things in life, they should be determined like the pigeon but after begging and pleading they should set their eyes on a new goal or prize for something they want to do even though the next thing may be as crazy as the last thing they wanted。 。。。more

I thought this book was good! It was a really cute story to read to young kids under the age of 6 I would say。 I enjoyed the illustrations in the book and think children would like them, too。 I also liked how the book was interactive with its readers。 The pigeon is trying to convince the readers to let him drive the bus and I thought that was awesome。 I am going to give this book 3/5 stars because this book will greatly appeal to young kids sense of humor。 Although young child will enjoy it and I thought this book was good!
